so close!

I really thought I would have this finished yesterday ~ but I got sick instead!

It’s my Fireworks quilt made with blocks from members of the Jersey Shore Modern Quilt Guild.  I was queen bee last July ~ yikes!  I’m glad I’ll have this done in time for this 4th of July!

I asked for blocks in different sizes so I added filler strips of black fabric with swirls of dark gray so that each block was 11 1/2″ square.   I added smaller blocks, 6 1/2″ h x 11 1/2″w, for variety.  I almost ran out of the black/swirl fabric which has never happend to me before!  Here’s all that I had left of it:

On the right is a closeup of the quilting.  I did it using a wavy stitch which is already programmed on my Baby Lock.  I set it to the largest width and the longest length.  It is the quickest quilting I’ve ever done ~ I’m sure I’ll be using this a lot more in the future!

The quilt is backed with a 100% cotton fabric with an all-over pattern and will be bound with Kona Solid Black.  It is 44″ x 56″.

I linked up with Lee at Freshly Pieced for WiP Wednesday!

  1. Nini~

Oh my goodness…this is beautiful! I’m so glad I am a contributor!! How exciting! I hope I get to see it in person soon. Lovely work from everyone!! Thank you for sharing.

    • And it means so much more to me because everyone in our fabulous guild contributed! Can’t wait to see you ~ keep thinking spring!

  2. Love this quilt. I think you are brave to put white flannel on the back but I think it will be lovely.

    • Ooops ~ I had a senior moment! This quilt is already backed with fabric, I corrected the post. I’m working on another quilt right now that will have the white flannel.

You are so right Kris about white on the back of a predominantly black quilt ~ I’m not that brave! :)

  3. Rose Braun

Your quilt looks great….I knew it would. Missed you at the Wednesday meeting. See you soon at the quilt in on Saturday the 5th??? I think.

  4. This is such a fun quilt Diane! I love the bright colors against the dark fabric—it sure does make a bold statement! Thanks for the inspiration!

Would love for you to stop by tomorrow and link this up to Fabric Frenzy Friday!

    • Hi Lindsey,

What wonderful things to say about my fireworks ~ thank you. I’m thrilled to link up on Fabric Frenzy Friday.

BTW – I would have loved to join your Crazy Acres Quilt Along. I just have too many projects hanging around my studio begging to be finished. I will be watching to see the lovely quilts created using your beautiful pattern.

    • Hi Cath + Jennifer,

You both left me such fabulous comments about my fireworks quilt ~ thank you!

And then I realized that you’re both members of the Portland MQG ~ that’s so fun!

  5. Oh I Love it! Especially the bright strips against the dark sky! Can’t wait to see it.

Thank you for taking the time from your busy day to leave me a comment!
